Juneteenth

I just want to say happy Juneteenth to my readers, especially my American readers. If you don’t know what Juneteenth is, it’s a holiday celebrated on June 19th to commemorate the emancipation of enslaved people in the US. Many people celebrate 4th of July as a celebration of America’s independence. However, everybody was freed except the slaves. Slaves have not gained their freedom until another 100 years. So most African Americans feel June 19 is the true Independence Day because that is the day when EVERYBODY was absolutely free. Thus, this day is particularly important within the black community.

I know this may seem more of a celebration for the black community. But I believe, this is a celebration for America. Period. I feel like we have to start making black history part of American history. It should not be segregated; it should be as equal as all the important main events. It’s sad to say, this holiday was not really celebrated and well known up until now. I’m not saying it’s sad only because it’s an important date in history, but because we have been celebrating Christopher Columbus for years.

This man is pure evil. He did not discover America. Actually, he never set foot on America. He landed in Haiti/Dominican Republic. He was lost and helpless until the Taino people (the people who were already living there) saved him. What did he do in return? He slaughtered, rape (especially little girls), and pillage the Taino people. That man is a pedophile, rapist, and murderer. Yet, we take a day off and celebrate this man who did not discover anything and cause more damaged than good. He gets recognition, praise, and a holiday, but something like Juneteenth is now being acknowledged? That’s what’s truly sad about this.

I can go on and on, but I believe I made my enough points. If you have any black friends, please reach out to them and have a serious conversation and really listen what they have to say. Try to be understanding and see where they are coming from. The only way we can heal is to have these awkward talks and listen to each other. I mean, truly listen to each other. If you don’t have a black friend, well.. you do now. Ask me questions. I am more than happy to answer. This nation can progress into a better future, if we all adult one day at a time.

  1. HAPPY JUNETEENTH!!!

I read somewhere that the Spanish Inquisition was looking at Columbus’s doings and appalled. All I could think was you KNOW shit’s messed up when the Spanish Inquisition is going, “Dude, no, calm down…” (And of course, now I can’t find it, sadness)
