Let me say, I’m not a huge fan of Charlamagne Tha God. I guess maybe in the earliest years as co-host on the radio show, The Breakfast Club, I found him rude, cocky, and ignorant. However, as the years pass, he has progress and I will admit, I admire him for that. Especially the episode when he made himself as Donkey of the Day.
If you don’t know what Donkey of the Day is, it’s pretty much he will pick a celebrity who was being a total ass. He made himself Donkey of the Day, because he realize as a man, without knowing, he has been contributing to rape culture in our society. It was a powerful and moving “speech”. Go check it out on YouTube. But I was hoping what he said, really had men who were listening, to rethink the way they treat women. It really touch me for obvious reasons, from my personal experience rape in the past (read Me Too).
Besides all that, I have stumbled upon Daily Show hosted by Trevor Noah. I love that show! But to my surprise, Charlamagne was a guest on there and he talked about mental health. I know I have post entries about mental health within the black community (African American and Mental Health) and focus mental health within black men (Real Man). This interview have definitely touch on both spectrum on the topic. I’m really happy he vocalize about this. With that being said, I made him my Man Crush Monday. Please watch the video below. Hopefully it will help you or someone you care about, to adult one day at a time.
Agreed! I heard his interview on TD Jakes and some other platform that I don’t remember. It was so powerful that I actually purchased two of his books! Glad I had not heard of him prior to this interview. I wouldn’t have been open to receiving based on preconceived notions.
