As you may already figured out, I am Only Michy. Thank you so much for reading, commenting, and sharing my entries thus far. It means a lot. I know recently I have been focusing on mental illness with the male community. Like my blog entries, Medals and Depression, MCM – Kevin Love, and The Man I Am. I wanted to bring it to the table, because it is not discussed a lot. To be fair, mental illness is not a topic that is brought to light often. But when it is, depression among men is the least of priority.

Why does it bother me? I have three older brothers who I love very much. Also, I have a lot of guy friends. Actually, majority of my friends are guys. And several of them suffer from mental illness. I try my best to make sure they are fine emotionally and mentally, but you know how men are, always want to act tough. They won’t let go of their pride and ego in order to be vulnerable.
I get it. Because even though I’m not a dude, I act the same way. I blame my brothers… lol! With all jokes aside, I want to make sure that my male loved ones don’t feel alone. I want them to know there are people that love them and there are many ways to reach out for help. Most of all, I want it to be known that feelings aren’t tied to a gender.
Crying and being sad is not a woman thing. It’s a human thing. As humans we have every right to feel all types of emotions. That’s what being human is all about. Heck, that’s what life is all about! Experiencing the ups and downs with various emotions. And these emotions aren’t tied to X and Y chromosomes. These emotions doesn’t define who you are as a person.
So to all the men out there who are suffering, you are not weak. It takes a big man to admit to their demons, a bigger man to ask for help to face them. Remember to face them by adulting one day at a time.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts! This is the first time I stumbled across your blog and look forward to seeing more of your work.
I’m glad you brought this topic up because today I discovered Movember which is dedicated to men’s health – physical, mental, and emotional. I think it’s great we are starting to highlight this issue.
